Changing the site focus to land rovers instead

Now that the Jags are gone, the focus of this blog will be the Land Rover products in the family. There are two: a 1993 Range Rover LWB County and a 1999 Discovery II. We bought the Discovery brand-new 12 years ago and it is still going strong. The Range Rover I bought two months ago from a dealer in Utah and it has quite a few surprises of not that kind joyously received. My luck.

The Carburetors needed to be rebuilt. Gave tha car to a friend and he is restoring it to running condition. Funny what having some money to do things can do.

XJ6L engine is crap

The engine in the XJ6L is crap and needs to be completely rebuilt as well as the carburetors. Going to salvage the engine from the XJ6C and see if that is a better option. It has been rebuilt previously and had 10 or less miles on it before it was parked. The carbs will have to be rebuilt there as well.

Working on removing all of the sale-able parts but the rest of the car is headed to the metal scrapper. Carried this car for too long with no progress and it has to go. Too rusted to restore except for a die hard fanatic with deep pockets. You can buy a cherry socal version for 8K so what’s the point?

Fuel Pump Questions

Took some photos this weekend as I try to figure out why the gas from the right which is clean isn’t getting to the front of the car. The pump on the right (newer looking black one) pumps gas when connected to the left tank – but tank has rusty gas. It does not send fuel to the front of the car from the right tank. Changed the fuel filter which was full of rust and needed to be changed. When I disconnected the fuel line from the pump on the right going to the T – fuel came out – I’m assuming from the line from the other pump.

Anyways – am I right in assuming that there might be a blockage in the fuel pickup line in the right tank?

Also, notice on the left tank the rubber grommet that is partially pushed in and you can see light on the other side. Is that the inside of the tank or outside the trunk area ???

Need that service and parts manual? Does anyone know which of the CD’s that are floating around (like welsh) are the ones that JHT produced?

The Mark II (340?) is gone

Towed the car to Washington DC and sold it to a friend of mine who plans on finishing the project. Managed to get it started and drove off the trailer. I’ll post a movie and photos of it later when I get home. I’ll the old girl but putting a car back together that I didn’t take apart obviously wasn’t my cup of tea.

Rusty gas

Tried starting the car today and discovered rusty gas coming out of the fuel line at the front of the engine.

Should I:

1. Drain the tanks, replace the fuel pumps within and put a
new filter up front?

2. Remove the tanks and rehab?

3. Remove the tanks and put new ones in?

I left a post on jag-lovers.org XK forum – will see what fellow enthusiasts recommend.
