Hi Ron,

The chap from NZ with the MK2 told me the secret is having 3 hands to get the gasket to fit! I can see what he means, eventually I'll get it to fit properly and then I can move on to another problem area.

I'm going to take the spat bracket that I have off and see if the metal worker in my industrial park can make me one. We will see. I can always buy one from XKS Unlimited - but at $22 plus S&H seems a little steep.

If you don't mind sending me a picture of your bracket I would appreciate it. maybe I will wait and see yours before I take my good one off and attempt to get it replicated.

I picked up a set of non-original gaskets for my Mark 2 on eBay, about the only part I've been able to find there. I, too, found installing these somewhat difficult, most particularly in getting a uniform edge showing around the outside. I was finally able to stretch them into position and got a nice installation. However, I didn't have any problem with alignment of the holes created for the electrical wiring, etc. By the way, I could supply you with a picture of the spat bracket on my car, possibly created when the car was reworked at Classic Jaguar in Austin. These are simply two steel box section piece much like you might see on ornamental wrought iron fences. The longer section, maybe 2 1/2" has been drilled for two 7/16" x 24 machine bolts that thread into the surface of the wheel well. An additional shorter section of box section is welded in the middle of the first-described piece, with a hole drilled in the center to accept the "spear" on the trailing edge of the spat. My spat fit, I'm sorry to say, is not very good.

Like the rubber gasket between the tail light and the body that doesn't seem
to want to fit right... Argh.

Ahh yes, I know this one well, a little stretching in the right place gets
it but you need three hands.

There's a lot of quirks like this on the MK2.

Well ask me anytime, sorta been there done that.

All the best,

Larry
