Fuel Pump Questions
Took some photos this weekend as I try to figure out why the gas from the right which is clean isn’t getting to the front of the car. The pump on the right (newer looking black one) pumps gas when connected to the left tank – but tank has rusty gas. It does not send fuel to the front of the car from the right tank. Changed the fuel filter which was full of rust and needed to be changed. When I disconnected the fuel line from the pump on the right going to the T – fuel came out – I’m assuming from the line from the other pump.
Anyways – am I right in assuming that there might be a blockage in the fuel pickup line in the right tank?
Also, notice on the left tank the rubber grommet that is partially pushed in and you can see light on the other side. Is that the inside of the tank or outside the trunk area ???
Need that service and parts manual? Does anyone know which of the CD’s that are floating around (like welsh) are the ones that JHT produced?
Lot’s of questions few answers.

Need help identifying some items under the bonnet of the XJ6
All,
While looking under the bonnet trying to figure why the engine is having trouble getting started I cam across some odd things. Pictures are show below. Any Ideas:

Posting ebay sales IDs.
As I put a part on eBay I will list a link here to the auction.
Parting out the XJ6C
Parts will begin appearing on eBay the next few days weeks. Let me know if you have any wants.
The Mark II (340?) is gone
Towed the car to Washington DC and sold it to a friend of mine who plans on finishing the project. Managed to get it started and drove off the trailer. I’ll post a movie and photos of it later when I get home. I’ll the old girl but putting a car back together that I didn’t take apart obviously wasn’t my cup of tea.
Rusty gas
Tried starting the car today and discovered rusty gas coming out of the fuel line at the front of the engine.
Should I:
1. Drain the tanks, replace the fuel pumps within and put a
new filter up front?
2. Remove the tanks and rehab?
3. Remove the tanks and put new ones in?
I left a post on jag-lovers.org XK forum – will see what fellow enthusiasts recommend.

A New car joins the stable
Last month I was the winning bidder on a 74 XJ6L on ebay for a grand total of $585. I’ve since picked up the car and brought it back to Florida. The XJ6C is going to the junk yard after I strip all usable and saleable parts off of her. Parts that are in common with the sedan will be kept and Couple specific parts will be sold. At least the new car is complete and isn’t a rust bucket. Pictures later.
No progress for a long time
These two cars seem to have the effect of cranking me up and then something happens and progress stops. It’s been a long time since I have visited my own blog let alone work on either car. Recently some comments posted by Jose jogged me into action once again. So – I’ll take a stab at getting the Blue Mk2 back up and running and creating a plan to finish the car. Wish me luck. Thanks Jose!!
What is an Ambla?
Do you have any idea what an Ambla is? Well a quick “google” search brings up some of the following definitions:
- BAS – Ambla is vinyl with an expandable knit backing introduced by Jaguar in 1968. It was primarily used on seats, i.e back covers and cushion skirts, where a material with stretch was needed. Ambla was also specified by Jaguar for door panels which had embossed heat weld lines, i.e XJ/XJS. A very necessary product for seats and doors only.
- JCNA – The Jaguar Club of North America’s Mark 2 Judging Guide states “Form Sept. 1966, in order to keep cost down, the upholstery was changed from leather to an Ambla plastic. The traditional Jaguar leather was still offered as an option… ” and “240 and 340 seats were covered in Ambla (type of vinyl).”
What prompted this blog entry was the following chart – from the Jaguar Enthusiast’s Club website.

Note that “Ambla” is listed as a “Mark 2 Ambla” model and it is also well known that the 240 and 340 models came with Ambla upholstery with Leather as an option. So, do I have a:
- Ambla Mark 2
- 340 w/Ambla
- or a Quickly rebadged North American Mark 2 with Ambla and a 340 Badge on the boot?
The investigation continues…
